Strange times are a foot, and it isn’t just ex-Senator  Larry Craig toe-tapping for men in a rest room.

Hi, I'm Larry Craig and I'm against Gays...not being in the rest room with me.

Hi, I’m Larry Craig and I’m against Gays…not being in the rest room with me.

To be clear, I don’t care if a person is straight, twisted, circular, flat lined, up, down, sideways, standing on their head or tip-toeing through tulips, just don’t make me do someone else’s  self-appointed so-called machination of living. Me? I’m so-called normal, always have been, but the thing is, the MOST important thing is, NORMAL is a passe’ word. It’s gone kaput, fini, done, flash-fried and over easy in the new, improved world. Here’s my thought-okay, one of them, the word normal will become an obsolete term in twenty -five years. Let’s face it. Normal is a prejudice word by today’s standards.

Behavior that once stayed in the closet(BTW-how did so many gay guys do it in a closet?) is now openly paraded down  main street USA  by people wearin’ pink spandex shorties.

Hmmm maybe try the spandex after all.

Hmm, if only he’d chosen the spandex.

Whatever. Thing is, facts are coming to light that show many of our leaders who most fought against the gay communities in the past were gay themselves. Perverse, that’s the word that comes to mind.

Thought for the day…..

Huge pegs don't fit thru small holes......

Huge pegs don’t fit thru small holes……and the changes we are seeing today in standard living profiles is a hard fit into obsolete, small-minded people. So what ever happened to love the one you’re with?

Woodstock led the way when it came to the freedom to love one another---if only more had followed.

Woodstock led the way when it came to the freedom to love one another—if only more had followed.

American’s today still fight for the right to love–isn’t that odd? Generations that followed mine often complain about my generation, that we didn’t do enough–well, I say the following generations didn’t fight to make our dreams come true, but instead got swallowed alive by technology and dungeons and dragons. Which ever point is true-this is true.

While, at the same time, Americans are still parading for the right to have sex with someone?

Have to say-the outfits rock

Have to say-the outfits rock!

To this day the FBI insists no one can prove the first director of the FBI, Edgar Hoover, was gay. Of course,  Hoover lived with his male friend, Clyde Tolson, for forty years, ate lunch with him every day, went on vacations with him and left most of his estate to the man in his will–all the while Hoover led the charge against gays publicly. “In public, Hoover waged a vendetta against homosexuals and kept “confidential and secret” files on the sex lives of congressmen and presidents. But privately, according to some biographers, he had numerous trysts with men, including a lifelong affair with Tolson. http://abcnews.go.com/Health/edgar-hoover-sex-men-homosexual/story?id=14948447.”

your average day quirky friendship-that’s all.

In fact, the FBI warned Clint Eastwood to not portray Hoover as gay in a movie he made about the man. I think this says plenty about where the FBI still stands on the gay issue–“Oh no, this can’t be..It’s the worst thing ever!” Right…. Hey, FBI, grow up,,,meet 2016 and chill about Hoover being gay. WE don’t care!!! In the end of the day, I’ll never forget how mad my Dad got when he first heard the term , gay, being used over TV by a reporter to refer to Homosexuals… Wheweee. My dad shouted how that term meant happy! In his day, I guess it did.

I don’t care who’s gay or not, who wears spandex or not-wait-maybe I do, dang! Each to his own! How long has that phrase been well-known, but never learned?

No, what bothers me is when gay guys, in this case, paraded as our Representatives who led charges against gay rights while they were  hold up in the moldy, secret, gay closets they loved so much! Here’s a link to a current true story that’s worth a hoot and a holler…. http://georgiboi.com/religion/16-anti-gay-leaders-exposed-gay-bisexual/ Basically, these representative guys have more than one screw loose; they must have degrees from a 101 course on how to hate yourself!

Of course, since our society will study, tear apart and rename anything under the sun so no one gets hurt by a label, the CDC–Center of Disease Control,  has determined that there is a disease where men make love to men but still are not ‘Gay’. Yeah, nice.  Okay, if that makes someone feel better.  And the HUGE bull frog I found hiding from my dog under my hose today is really a bird, or maybe a singing rabbit-not sure.  Can we just say,  it’s okay to be gay, but don’t go around showing your ass by crucifying gays from public office or any other place, be you gay or not?

Jeez is the idea of tolerance soup yet? Or, will acceptance of those who are different from us take another hundred years to finally rise to our consciousness?

One other thought after establishing the fact that some politicians, preachers and whatnot’s have had the balls to call out gay’s while they themselves are gay incognito, (I’ve always wanted to use that word in a glob)- I’ve a question… does this mean it’s correct to extrapolate that Trump has all his chips down on Isis and Muslims? It’s sorta like our whole society is looking into a fun house funny mirror-the guy who hates Muslims and who has gone bankrupt soooo many times should be President? Our gay leaders lead the charge against gays!  Peeeerfecto. Okay, it’s screw ball soup…American style.

We can ride this out together

We can ride this out together…

As a Christian minister in the Western world, I’d like to mention that Jesus’ message was hope, help, healing and above all, love. Stop the hate; join 2016, a new, brighter world. Love the next gay person you meet- you don’t have to kiss…

(Please don’t miss the footnote…..)

Disastrous  social change does not always start with a bang, gong, bells ringing or sirens issuing warnings. No, social upheaval usually starts with a whimper, a few soft-spoken words that touch a nerve. No leader of what is to become mass hysteria starts with the words, “I will crush you.” At first there are gatherings that turn into patriotic parties and then feel good stickers, hats and flags are passed out. Uniforms might follow.

I’ve heard people ask if Trump could really become another Hitler. Well, that seems a stretch, or does it? More, is the question already answered? Are the social pressures the same in America today as they were in Germany when the charismatic leader of the German Worker’s Party fully took over in 1933? It would seem so. Are the words Trump uses today to unite his followers much like those used by Hitler in 1931? Yes.*(Interesting facts in this footnote.)

In 1931, when Hitler began to draw crowds to his meetings, Germany’s middle class was in upheaval. Basic food necessities out striped what workers could earn in a week, while a well to do class, the Jewish shop keepers, intelligentsia and mid-government/management officials were better off than most. Plus, there was the hated Gypsies, an outside group, who were held responsible for most crime that took place throughout the country.  Most German’s wanted their country to be what it once had been-a society dominated by law,  economic fairness in the work place and upward mobility.

Trump promises to make America great again while blasting immigrants, pointing to corruption among bankers, management and know nothing intellectuals and berating Congress—he says all are the true causes of America’s decline. “I love the poorly educated.” Donald Trump. (2/2016)**

When Hitler spoke of the New Reich it gave Germany’s frustrated workers a place to believe in once more. By 1933, children followed their parent’s lead without question.

Children join the new society of Germany

Children join the new society of Germany(1932)

It's time to join us.

It’s time to join us.

On the night of January 30, 1933, Nazis held parades and cheered for Adolf Hitler, Germany’s  new Chancellor. Two months later, Germany’s Reichstag-the equivalent of America’s Congress-gave the new chancellor dictatorial powers above and beyond that of the aging President.

There were huge marches held under blazing lights to the sound of thundering feet.

There were huge marches held under blazing lights that boomed to the sound of thundering feet.

The fervor for a new, improved Germany grew-the gatherings were thrilling to attend for most.

The fervor for a new, improved Germany grew-the gatherings thrilled many.

At first, the good-hearted souls of united Germany sang songs of protest in front of shop owners thought guilty of charging too much for their goods. It was a protest and few , if any, could conceive of gassing people to death for their wrongdoing…that wasn’t in the picture below.

But for others, the unification was frightening, and it had left them out, unless wearing a bulls eye could be considered membership.

But for some, the unification was frightening, and it had left them out, unless wearing a bull’s eye could be considered membership.(See the worried shop owners in the back…)

At first, Nazis members merely sang songs and stood in lines to protest the wrongs of society.

Soon, a forced unification began throughout Germany that joined all groups, civic or political, as Nazis or they were disband.(1933)

rrare112-4The rallies grew in number and attendance. Common workers, men, women and children were awed by the promise of a new Germany. But first, the emphatic speaker, Hitler, made clear that all enemies of Germany had to be removed if the plan to improve Germany was to succeed. The roving bands of Gypsy criminals were the first to be collected. One arrest led to the next…

The fervor for success and prosperity spread throughout Europe.

Crowds can be misleading; charismatic speakers dangerous.  The rest of what happened for those who mistakenly followed Hitler is a history we all know. Will history be repeated? The times of social unrest in America seem to make it possible. Americans perhaps now more than ever before need to tread lightly, and vote with an awareness of life’s possibilities.

*It’s interesting to read about Hitler’s rise to power in light of Trump’s rise to power, and with regard to how many of us truly can’t comprehend Trump supporters. Did you know that in 1920 Hitler had been convicted of Treason, but, through situations, spent less than a year in jail, and in 1930 Goebbels was tried for High Treason? The Nazi’s party and it’s power took time to grow, but one spring board was the Treaty of Versailles-the populace didn’t like the terms of the agreement( though different in construct-think NAFTA) and most of Hitler Brown Shirts, the SA, were ex-soldiers who fought in WW ll. By 1930, most Germans thought the Gypsies were responsible for the majority of crime in the country.(think Mexican’s and Muslims) In the end, what proved to be a beginning, a head of Hitler’s SA was shot in 1930 by a leftist who thought the strong leaning Nationalists(Nazi’s) were crazy. Three years later Hitler came to full power. He disband the Parliament which everyone thought/knew was corrupt(think our congress) and had himself appointed leader of Germany. All the time, his Brown shirts, ex-military, did the muscle work he needed to get done to gain control. So maybe not over night, but in time, movements can come to fruition, and one assassination can flip any amount of sense to madness.

Really?

Often, learning a bit of history can teach an ear -full.

Often, learning a bit of history can teach us an ear -full.

Henry Ford wanted a car in every garage and cranked up production to make that possible for most, as long as they had a job, garage and home. Thing is, a lot is being discussed today about  what color of life matters and Americans’ are slinging their prejudices around as if those thoughts were snow balls, or water balloons or bastions of truth. No one cares who has a garage, house, or job.

After World War II, not much was different.

Troops came home to waiting wives and began in earnest to create the baby boomer generation. Children sprung from bedrooms within cheap housing as if they were flowers blooming in May. But this time in American history wasn’t a spring time in the life of many Americans, even for those who had fought in the war and returned home victorious. The trouble was, many of our returning Vets were Black, and in truth they did matter but it was how they mattered that really was the point and poison of Life in America. The attitudes and actions taken back then have created so much of the radical tensions American’s feel today throughout our society.

The housing plans marketed and sold by Bill Levitt back in the 1940’s, community systems known as Levitttown developments, had much to do with the segregation that exists in American communities today.

The need for housing was urgent after the war and the plan was simple.

FDR had established much earlier (about 1930ish)a government sponsored mortgage lending company that would enable vets to buy homes with little down and affordable mortgages. Later on, massive Levittown building sites could make the American dream of owning a home come true for all those who wanted to take that golden step up in society. Of course, by Levittown specific purchase agreements only Whites could buy into any of their homes-the Levittown’s were segregated for Whites Only, a widely celebrated fact among the White middle class. Even though segregation in housing had been outlawed as far aback as 1917, still the Levittown , White only, purchase agreements stood in court when challenged in 1955.*

This Levittown was built in Pa just after the war.....

This Levittown was built in Pa just after the war…..

Oddly, I have personal experience with this, “No Blacks  in our community,” law.

I was born and raised in Roslyn Heights, South Park, a Levitt built community. The first Black family moved in around 1964. My dad had been one of the lucky soldiers to buy into the community and we along with our neighbors  were all as happy as claims living in our white shelled housing.

My fmaily in our South Park, Levitt built home,,about he year the Black family moved in-1965ish

My family in our South Park, Levitt built home,,about the year the Black family moved in-1965ish

A community meeting was held to try to stop the action when news broke about the first  Blacks buying one house in South Park. I can still hear my dad complaining that by strict deed he’d bought into a White only neighborhood. But times had changed since 1955 and the courts were now trumping those segregated agreements-but only for those Blacks lucky enough to have risen high within the earning structure. Beside the Levittown restrictions, Blacks also had to fight against rating mortgage systems that gave White only communities the toughest standards for approval, while Black districts were rated very low making easy to get mortgages plentiful for those areas. As I recall, this Black man who did move in was a doctor….The scuttlebutt over this Black family moving into South Park dissipated once fears of too many cars, an unkempt lawn, run down shutters and street garbage proved to be unfounded-that, however, took awhile.

Basically, Levittown’s all over the Northeast created 70,000 home communities that stood for thirty years or longer as icons of White only, safe,  well-kept neighborhoods-White only areas where middle class families could prosper and live the American Dream. For Blacks? The hard to get mortgages and outright segregated communities helped to  create the Ghetto, mostly Black housing areas many Americans now point to and exclaim how shameful those developments are today.

In truth, most of the trash talk about Black Ghettos started after WW ll with the government mortgage restrictions and Levittown’s exclusive White Only purchasing policies….

Yes all lives matter, but back in 1945, at least, the lives of Blacks and their families, even the lives of Black vets mattered less than their White counterpart’s lives-and most White people back then thought this fair. Exclusion of Blacks into White communities after the War helped lead to feelings of contempt for Blacks at the time. Those feelings of contempt for a race branded as not good enough has , at least in part, bred the ever-present hatred for Blacks that is so prevalent within American White society today. Those long ago cast feelings are an anchor to progress for American society today, and we must as a people break those chains and move on.

*From a google article on Levittown history…..

Originally, the Levitts’ racist policy was enshrined in the lease itself, which stipulated that “the tenant agrees not to permit the premises to be sued or occupied by any person other than members of the Caucasian race.” 10 That provision was later struck down in court as unconstitutional, but Bill Levitt continued to enforce racial homogeneity in practice by rejecting would-be black buyers.
Activist groups across the U.S. and even individuals within Levittown, who united under the Committee to End Discrimination in Levittown, protested the Levitts’ racist policies. In 1955, the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) sued federal mortgage agencies which had helped future homeowners finance the purchase of homes in the community, basing the suit on the denial of six black veterans from purchasing homes. Thurgood Marshall, the lawyer who had successfully argued Brown v. Board of Education, represented the plaintiffs, but a Philadelphia court dismissed the suit after ruling that the federal agencies were not responsible for preventing housing discrimination.
Though the Levitts made it an unofficial policy not to sell homes to minorities, they could not legally prevent an existing homeowner from reselling their home to black buyers.

A Phosphate mine in florida

A Phosphate mine in florida

It used to be that about everyone understood the meaning of this saying, a pig in a poke, but not so much now. Thing is, this so-called Plum Creek plan as presented under the guise of Envision Alachua is exactly a pig in a poke, something many Alachua County citizens are buying into without really knowing what they’re getting.

The pretense of this plan is that it provides for better development of the East side of Alachua County.  The claim is that it will preserve green space, eliminate the use of septic tanks in the new project area, provide for work centers to enhance employment in the region and create an environment that might attract further, progressive community building  in the area.

Very little of what is said to be favorable about the Plum Creek plan is true, while much of the plan is truly bad.

Though preserving 50% of the area as green space and the exclusion of septic tanks are two parts of this provision, the rest of the favorable blathering about Plum Creek is the “poke” that’s hiding the “Pig” in this plan.

The only major change in the provisions of land use not already provided by the recently voted in Alachua Forever plan is this:  Plum Creek Envision Alachua allows mining in the East side area.

To understand what this means, just check the Keystone area of Florida and search for the lakes that were once there before mining came to the region…..

by removing large volumes of phosphate from the ground every aspect of the environment becomes at risk(this mine is in Florida.)

By removing large volumes of phosphate from the ground every aspect of the environment becomes at risk(this mine is in Florida.)

Simply put, plum Creek is a mining bill that opens up Gainesville’s East side to phosphate mining-that’s the sole purpose of this plan in a nut shell. Speaking of nuts, who in their right mind would want a five acre property located near a phosphate mine? Especially when they had the pristine NW side of Gainesville to choose for a home site? Can you imagine the citizens of the North West side of Gainesville approving a phosphate mine in their local community?

It would never happen that the NW side of Gainesville would allow a phosphate mine near their homes….

The projected employment gain by this plan ranges from 2000 new jobs down to 200 jobs-the latter is more likely a true estimate at best. Why? Mining has never produced an environmental sound,  booming community nearby its mining site. In fact, mining has left environmental disasters all around the world in their wake.

Put a phosphate mine on the East side and you’ll never see people who are first moving to Alachua county choose that area as a place to settle….never.

The county has already stated that the proposed Plum Creek land does have abundant supplies of phosphate beneath the ground. Why is this important?

Another part of the Plum Creek plan that’s a Poke hiding a Pig is in its name. There is no Plum Creek anymore-Weyerhaeuser has bought the entire Plum Creek company. This is important since, although Weyerhaeuwser has glowing reviews on its timber management, Weyerhaeuser has perhaps the world’s worst record for causing or leaving behind environmental disasters when it mines anywhere.

Yes-the new owners and developers of Plum Creek, Weyerhaeuser(pronounced ,ware-howser), is currently on the US Toxic round-up list, Canada’s Toxic violators list, and being sued in at least three countries in Europe for creating toxic waste sites.

Is this the type of company Alachua County citizens want to let mine in our county? No, is the only answer.

I remember hearing the then director of our Alachua County Library district, Ann Williams, as well as commissioner Charles Chestnut discuss the need for further development on our East side as far back as 1996. It is a struggle to develop the East side as quickly as we would hope to, but at least the beautiful Cone Park Branch of the Library district has come to fruition and fits the bill for progressive, advantageous development.

Our East side needs much more, but the last thing the area needs is mining. That would be a death knoll to future, more attractive development in the East side. This Plum Creek plan that allows mining is a slap in the face to all those who have worked to improve the East side for so many years.

Envision Alachua-The Plum Creek plan-is a pig in a poke. Don’t buy it. Please attend the final meeting on this issue at East Side High  school and ask the commissioners to check the true price tag of this proposal-mining- and ask our commissioner’s to turn down the Plum Creek plan.

(Two public meetings have been scheduled by county staff to present their response to the revised Plum Creek plan:

  • February 16, 2016
  • February 18, 2016
Both meetings start at 5:00 pm and will be at Eastside High School. There will be presentations by county staff and representatives of Plum Creek. There will be time for public comment.)
The stand by your plan.org group is fighting to retain our rights…..

Ha! Alachua County Forever , my ass. Right now, elected officials may be about to approve a building development  that flies in  the face of the Alachua County Forever agenda! This plan is one made in hell and disregards the will of the people of Alachua County and the entire state of Florida! It comes to us under the guise of, Envision Alachua, a new improved plan brought up just three months after voters fully backed Alachua Forever Amendment 1 at the voting booths. Thing is, developers couldn’t find a way to work around the Alachua Forever amendment so they’ve invented this Envision Alachua and they’re calling it  a “Community backed” program. Whahhah…maybe it is backed by a community of thieves hell-bent on circumventing the people’s will, but that’s about it.  Just last Nov. the people voted on Amendment 1 and that amendment won by over a 75% majority-an amendment that, in part, supported the green passageway in Florida and our state’s wet lands.  It is a blue print of how We the People want growth and development in Florida to be structured  right now and in the future—forever.

The plum creek development proposed site lands right on top of Florida’s green passageway

Developers hopw to counter Amendment 1 with something called-Envision Florida....WTH?

Developers hope to counter Amendment 1 with something called-Envision Alachua….WTH?

Contact these Alachua County Commissioners now and ask them to stop Plum Creek-You’ll get the big picture if you read Commissioner, Mike Byerly’s comments on the link below-he’s got it right,,,Commissioner, Hutchinson is oh so wrong…

Profiles

And it even gets worse. The developer’s  requested to have waved  the required(by law prior to building) plans for road development and septic usage until AFTER the development is built! Why-oh-why does this all make me think of the Bio Mass plant scenario disaster our citizens of this county have had to endure ….oh, wait, I know why: it’s because this Plum Creek crap is the same sort of a load our elected officials pulled when the Bio plant was put into action.

Okay, why should we the citizens of Alachua County, Florida, and the entire US hate the Plum Creek building plans? Ha—amendment 1 just passed Nov 2015 by over 75%,,,an amendment put in place to stop just this sort of urban sprawl into our wet lands and intrusion of the green passageway for migrating animals from north to south Florida. In part, the protection of this passageway is what Alachua Forever is about. Now, within one year of the passages of amendment 1 back room deals and elected officials threaten to side step the will of the people by allowing this development…..Here’s a short list of those groups who supported amendment 1–and IF you or anyone you know is a member of any of these groups–please contact them and have them write Alachua county officials,,, and Cynthia Chestnut the current chair of he Democratic party for North Florida. The, no, THE list—-“Florida’s Water and Land Legacy Campaign attributes much of its success to the invaluable service of its volunteers and generous contributions of donors. Some memes do things well, but I doubt any I choose to use here will fit that bill…..

-The Memes say that Cruz is either a Nazi or he has a small penis-so he’s out. Too bad, he’s got a catchy name-Cruz- who wouldn’t want to take one? I can’t believe there isn’t a meme about Cruz taking a cruise-it’s all so wrong!

Meanwhile, when it comes to dirty laundry-Hillary knows where it all hangs out on the Capital Hill, but she may be hiring illegals to do her own. Who knows, right?

oh, I know Bush Jr and Cheney erased ten thousdan plus more e-mails than you did--something like 23 thousand,,,but really? Why follow that lead?

Chris Christie has bridge issues and should see a dentist. His rash behavior at the cost of workers and other commuters alike regarding ,’Bridgegate,’ raises serious concerns about his sense of fair play, or giving a shit about people.

I absolutely believe this.

I absolutely believe this.

When Purina left–i.e. was forced out– of her CEO position she left her corporate headquarters smelling like tuna fish. Later, we all learned that was just the smell of all her corporation’s money that had gone bad under her leadership.

People who support Jeb Bush say they’d hate to see another dynasty in the house via Clinton? Butttt wait? Wouldn’t Jeb be the third Bush to… whatever.

If Trump isn’t wearing a wig..I say, Why not! There’s something dreadfully wrong there. And he talks about how other people look?

Corn ,hands down.

Corn ,hands down.

The Miami guy does have his own hair-I suspect and I hate that….but there’s another thing I don’t like about Marco-Polo Rubio. He claimed his parents left Cuba to escape from Castro, but really they left before Castro took power. When confronted with his lie for sympathy story Rubio was quick to point out that the real story was Why his parents came to America. Well, to me, the real story is Why did Rubio lie in the first place. To me, the truth is always the real story, and for Marco-polo Rubio that may be hard thing to find.

I’m waiting to see who runs before I throw my hat on any marker.

-I haven’t heard Bernie say anything I disagreed with, but maybe his stance of the gun issue is wobbly…And he’s a Socialist. Don’t Socialists eat people for dinner? Just asking.

Time to eat.

Time to eat.

Hillary? Maybe she’s a tad more experience but more of a two-sided pancake by most accounts and fact checked flip-flops.

Here’s the good news: Ben Carson may not have tried to kill someone, or beat someone’s brains out with a rock in like forty years! There’s a resume’ starter. But heads up-the man’s moved on to dissecting brains for a living, so that’s something. It’s just a bit eerie.

My request is very simple as well. Come on Republicans, give America something to think about the next time around. Dig up Eisenhower, or some other successful guy you have lying around. Change! Heck Trump trumpets change but does he really offer anything to U.S. voters but that the rich will get richer and the middle class poorer?

Bottom line: our money has been devalued too many times not to be noticed at the kitchen table.

Plus, there’s still enough of us alive who remember when maybe America was great, and we’ve seen Reagan and worse, Bush Jr. tank our way of life–and about those on going attacks on Unions? The answer to that is our Republican party blowing in the wind, or pissing into it. NAFTA gets to sit on Mr. Clinton’s lap and lean on Al Gores shoulders, but the real tacks get pinned on regain my ass “I don’t recall” Reagan and the decider, Bush Jr., who made all the wrong decisions. What a pair–and I don’t mean that in a good way, let’s get that straight. Oh gosh, this whole thing is going down a hole.

I realize right off wiht my own children that using leashes was a bad idea since one day they'd use them on me.....see? Ya gotta think ahead.

I’ve a great idea! Let’s stick to the bare facts.

According ot reports, Donald Trumps current wife wanted to show how sexy of a first lady she'd make....Some trophies need polishing, others, not so much.

Donald Trumps current wife is courting the political right to line up those conservative votes for hubby and dollar. This makes ‘cents’, Right? I mean ,really? This is the wife of the conservative leader so far for the Presidency?

In the end, I want a Democrat in the White House….or at this stage, I think we’re screwed. Why, you yell! It’s simple: the Republican trickle down economics has been a HUGE disaster for the middle class working family. The mind-blowing thing is the party still hangs on to that principal when they slather on about what will make this Country great again. It’s a HUGE lie and a worse than that blunder for the Republican party.

Two elections later and the Republican party still can’t learn-that’s scary.  Almost as scary as Trump not wearing a hair piece.

Believe it or not, I’d love for the political Right to come around and start making sense with their platforms, and not cents off the backs of the America workers. Have you ever seen a one-sided penny? Me neither-and the lunacy coming out of the party to the right makes me nervous. Major Tom, where are you?

Forget who’s running for President. Maybe, we all need to just run away? But okay, right now, my hat hangs on Hillary. And for the polls that shout how Bernie is closing in on Hillary, well at least some of that is bullshit coming from the Right who’d rather run against , “The Socialist.”  But the nominations will come, and then we’ll know who’s really in the ring.

Recently, a FB post caught my eye. It featured a Silver Back Gorilla signing as he expressed his feelings and thoughts about the Paris Climate Talks. It’s clear this animal has a certain degree of intelligence not thought possible by sooo many.  But what about Koko?  Just watch-http://www.koko.org/node/2195

Koko signs, Earth

Koko signs, Earth

Koko signs a whole bunch of stuff….

"I am Gorilla"

“I am Gorilla”

And then, also this-

"But Man stupid."

“But Man stupid.”

See? It’s freaky to realize this Gorilla knows what he’s talking about and has strong opinions on the subject matter. This video illustrates why I think hunters of Gorilla’s and all exotic animals must be stopped, and maybe what’s freakier than a signing gorilla is that many humans would hunt this animal down and kill him if they could.

In the end, for many of us there’s nothing like having a trophy-trophy wives,

According ot reports, Donald Trumps current wife wanted to show how sexy of a first lady she'd make....Some trophies need polishing, others, not so much.

(According to reports, Donald Trump’s current wife wanted to show how sexy of a first lady she’d make….Some trophies need polishing, others, not so much.)

or having a trophy husband,

 What?

(What?)

or a slew of trophy animal heads plastered on walls. All over the world there are groups of people who like killing someone’s spirit, or purpose, or gutting an animal that didn’t see the bullet coming.

Cecil the lion- how in god's name is killing this animal called sport?

Cecil the lion- how in god’s name is killing this animal called sport?

Much of the world was horrified by the slaughter of the great African lion, Cecil, but somehow that killer slipped through the knot of justice and danced his way to a future. He has much too much company in that regard.

This is dick-wade dentist Palmer who killed Cecil...this pic, however, is of another murder his proud to have committed.

This is the dick-wad dentist, Palmer, who killed Cecil…this picture, however, is of another murder he’s proud to have committed.

Bluntly, these animals who mankind allows to be slaughtered every day have intelligence,(that’s why they hide and run from humans-duh!)  Here’s a chance to watch Koko learning sign–fun. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SNuZ4OE6vCk

All kinds of animals deserve so much better than to be hunted down by people in planes, boats, trucks, cars or on foot. Have you ever noticed how almost any animal you see crossing a road is running for their life? They have a concept of death, and a desire to live. This is why America should have a HUGE( i.e. in Donald Trump’s voice) building project to provide either overhead or underground animal passage ways across major roads and roads that traverse wildlife areas. Mostly, even our National Parks don’t provide this added protection for the life those authorities purport to value so much-

animals are intelligent, and they use these to live.

Animals are intelligent, and they use these to live.

Animals either know about the passes and use them , or they are taught to us them.

Animals either know about the passes and use them , or they are taught to use them.

Safe form traffic-now if we could only stop killing them.

Safe from traffic-now if we could only stop killing them.

But heck, we can’t even stop people from killing people, why would I expect we would care about the vanishing wildlife, the ones who can think well enough to survive if it wasn’t for us.

Thing is, we might lose our underwear next.....then what?

I’ve been thinking about people, and it’s occurred to me there’s a test we forget to take in school.

Intelligence is a bit of a nebulous term. Here we are, people with so-called intelligence who have built enough nuclear bombs to blow up our only world a zillion times over, and people routinely think nuclear power plants are a good idea even after the horrors those plant melt downs have already caused to our planet.

Fukushima still smokes today-do not inhale.

Fukushima still smokes today-do not inhale.

My mind keeps asking: so what's the lesson here?

My mind keeps asking: so what’s the lesson here?

I say there’s some sort of intelligence test people are missing; the human race needs to re-think things. Perhaps the biggest test for humanity is how we show mercy to the things we could otherwise kill. Do we just kill, or do we try to help.

As a kid, I loved seeing Theodore Roosevelt’s Sagamore Hill Estate-went maybe 50 times- with all the dead animal heads staring at me from their perch on the walls.

Dead heads, and not music lovers.

Dead heads, and not music lovers.

Now, the thought of Roosevelt killing all those animals for sport and me enjoying seeing the heads makes me want to throw-up, barf a bag full and then puke. Of course, times have changed, I’ve grown up, read, cared, so my thoughts on the matter of dead animal heads have changed. Why can’t Mankind grow up and learn as well?

When will we learn that the life around us has intelligence and should not be hunted, destroyed, but managed for the prosperity of the World. That answer is the correct one to seek for what should be Humanity’s next, new improved test.

Koko hopes we will pass…..

Life is bigger than any of us.

My foot falls beat a rhythm upon wet leaves strewn along the path, or through dusty sands dried by a rain-less week. Wind rattles leaves as though chimes hang from every branch; the Florida panther, Jaguarundi, bison, wild horse, fearsome gator and grunting bore live nearby. The massive Pileated Woodpecker laughs from high above as the mid-size tanager hangs perpendicular from a massive oak trunk, its expansive call echoing through the woodland. Nature’s music owns the air.

The long-eared owl silently watches, its large eyes blinking, it’s head swiveling left and right. This is no time to feel alone, but a great moment for recalling the past and looking ahead to the future while so intensely immersed in the present. Time ticks on another clock, not here with the scurrying ants, buzzing insects, the birds, trees, land and running rabbits.

This moment owns forever.

There’s a bluff that Chief Micanopy had walked so long ago, before he was overcome, conquered. The prairie below this bluff, now an expansive grassland traversed by creeks and dotted by ponds, had once been a sizable lake crossed only by boat, and then prairie once again, or rain flooded marsh; change the only constant. In this order, the majestic clouds, or severe blue skies, the morning mists full of rainbows and ever vast starlit sky follow along with the prairie as calendar pages turn, as the years pass. The changes come year in, year out, life moving forward or gone.

It seems the true measure of a person may be the shadow they leave behind, one they’ll never see.

The shadow we make lingers, stretches, expands through others that follow our lifetime. The winds will always blow-the sailor knows this as sure as the winged will balance by claw and the black bear smell a man’s breath from twenty miles off. Nature has its way of surviving. The true nature of us will survive, too. A life lived full of good intention will be a peaceful memory as all of us take a last breath, a last look around, and then say goodbye to all of it, the hurry, bustle, stress, the appointments we’ve kept and those we’ve missed. In the end, I’m certain what we have most is who we have really been. As true as the wind blows, that truth will rush through our senses with an undeniable rigidity in our last moments.

This is why I walk. I want to think about who I am, and what I’ve really done. Life is long, but never long enough-ends will be left hanging, but that doesn’t mean there could ever be a turn-down day, a reason to lose focus, to give up. Somehow, I feel the life around me, us, is always calling for us as a society to do better, to make the ends meet, and to find peace with our place on the planet.

I think of Isis, and how in my mind’s eye I’d like to hug each member and tell them I feel their pain, but it’d be foolish not to realize those same people would cut my head off. The world faces a difficult, blood soaked time ahead, but has it ever been any different? So many more civilians were killed in WWII than were soldiers, and when we speak of the deaths, we seldom think of the wounded, the transformed forever by the blasts of war, the loss of limb, or parents or siblings. My feet hit the earth as if each one is recording a massacre of life that has happened in our history on the planet.

That’s when the owl in all its wisdom hoots. How? Why? What is all this for? Walking-

Even the sperm race to battle and penetrate the egg. Is life then just a battle from its beginning, one we are meant to endure? Of course, I don’t know. I only know I love the woods, the life it holds, the life I see around me, and I want the killing to stop.

(Please don’t miss yesterday’s post: Pro choice; Pro abortion.)

I’ve been lurking about the crumpled pages of the gun debate.

I have to admit, Guns don’t kill people, people do, has a certain ring to it. It’s sorta how tooth brushes don’t brush teeth, people do!–NOT.

WPD’S= Weapons of People Destruction.

not your run-of-the mill linen closet....

not your run-of-the mill linen closet….

Recently, I heard Donald Trump remark that the latest killing in Oregon was a matter of Mental Health, the words inferring the issue is not so much one of gun control, but mental health. This isn’t the first time I’ve heard this distinction slide from the mouths of people, gun lobbyists and NRA members. Here’s the point: the fact that a nut job who killed random people with a gun needed a mental health intervention before the act does not preclude the fact that having guns so prevalent in our society is a nightmare scenario that must be addressed. Twisting the two thoughts apart as though one negates the other is a sleight-of-thought maneuver well-greased with manure.

Yes, any person should be able to sit in a room with a loaded gun and not kill their friends over what tv channel to watch, flirtations, break ups, getting laid off, not laid, or just plain having a bad day while deciding they’re a super hero. So, it does appear in view of the scattered carnage that’s taking place in malls, schools, movie houses, homes, places of business and on our streets across the US that many American’s need some form of Mental counseling. Thing is, no one should be sitting in a living room that houses armor piecing bullets, automatic machine guns, bazookas, one million rounds of ammo, instructions on how to drive the tank out back, use the rocket launchers in the basement, or wear the bullet proof armor that’s stashed in the closet, either. To uncloud the issue, if a warmongering Armageddon is coming, none of these WPD’S will help anyone.

Getting back to the saying: guns don’t kill people, people do….Well, yes, people with guns kill people…and never ever, I’m gonna take this leap of faith, has a gun stood up and shot a person. See, the people do have a part in the killing, but if they had no gun, and merely pointed a finger and said, really loudly, BANG, not much would happen.  So yeah, guns are the killing point of the issue.

“But bad guys won’t obey the gun laws put in place!” Oy Vey, how many times have I heard this convoluted piece of illogical nonsense.

Again, everyday in every way and for every sort of reason, people drive through stop signs without stopping but, still, our country puts up stop signs-over 8 hundred million stops signs, 856,373,373 to be exact by the end of 2009, even though it’s well-known people will disobey that law. So yeah,  it’s foolish to think that a law shouldn’t be enacted because people will break it, or disregard the law. Laws stands for what we as a society thinks best.

It’s nice to debate-a huge part of the beauty of America is the freedom we enjoy to discuss the issues as loudly as we like- but at some point in time, the debating needs to end, the bell has to ring, and a winner declared.  Enough. Even an NRA enthusiast if they’d buried their college bound child this past weekend due to a madman shooting would agree, we need to clamp down on  weapons of people destruction here in America in every way possible by any available means.

One last thought,,, as an American you have the right to join state-run militias, and to do so , you have the right to own a gun…not stock pile an arsenal onto your kitchen shelves.* Please enjoy reading the 2nd Amendment.  “A well-regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.” The second part of this statement simply defines a condition that’s inherently necessary if one is to be a member of an actively run, STATE MILITIA…..Don’t think so? Find your view, or not, in the article linked….

Franque23 wants the US to stop, drop and roll. I want the murders to stop, or drop in number and to roll those weapons away.

a part…from the link above-

The Argument for “Militia-Only” Gun Ownership

So well-worn is this argument that Justice John Paul Stevens used it in his dissent in District of Columbia vs. Heller (emphasis added):

The Second Amendment was adopted to protect the right of the people of each of the several States to maintain a well-regulated militia. It was a response to concerns raised during the ratification of the Constitution that the power of Congress to disarm the state militias and create a national standing army posed an intolerable threat to the sovereignty of the several States. Neither the text of the Amendment nor the arguments advanced by its proponents evidenced the slightest interest in limiting any legislature’s authority to regulate private civilian uses of firearms. Specifically, there is no indication that the Framers of the Amendment intended to enshrine the common-law right of self-defense in the Constitution.

As did Justice Stephen Breyer in the same case (emphasis added):

The majority’s conclusion is wrong for two independent reasons. The first reason is that set forth by Justice Stevens—namely, that the Second Amendment protects militia-related, not self-defense-related, interests. These two interests are sometimes intertwined. To assure 18th-century citizens that they could keep arms for militia purposes would necessarily have allowed them to keep arms that they could have used for self-defense as well. But self-defense alone, detached from any militia-related objective, is not the Amendment’s concern.

The bugaboos in America’s health care system are unexpected expenses, catastrophic loss and/or cost as we age, plus the way our health care industry separates the haves from the have-nots in our society. Inherently, by design, our health care system creates another way for us to hate one another, or think of ourselves as better or worse than the rest.*

But, I  should start from the beginning, from a conversation we had in small waves…

We hit Cocoa Beach early this past Saturday just before the crowd arrived. It was a calm morning; no waves, no wind, the heat index would be high later on for sure.

The beach we prefer in Cocoa is one filled with tourists from all around the world-and you see people doing about everything on the sand.

The beach we prefer in Cocoa is filled with tourists from all around the world-and you see people doing about everything. We did have someone doing hand stands in front us, but  I’d no idea that I’d hear something this day that would turn me on my head as well.

My wife had already struck up a conversation with a Canadian by the time I’d waded out to her side, standing in ripples of waves beneath clear blue skies, the ocean horizon so easily seen.

People could stand anywhere they wanted, while big shrimp boats, cruise lines and others tanked their way well off shore...

People could stand about while big shrimp boats, cruise lines and others tanked well off shore…

It's a casual beach where people wear what they want-but mostly the college crowd goes further south to Coconuts...

People wear, or not, what they want-but mostly the college less-dressed crowd goes further south in Cocoa to Coconuts…Here, the beach is somewhat conservative, but internationally accepting of fashion and preference…I like the meeting of diverging cultures.

The surf made it easy for people of all ages to stand around in chest deep water, others did crawl strokes, or paddled a surf board. Beginners road there first ripple.

Calm waters have the advantage of teaching the young or novice how to ride out those waves.....

Calm waters can help the young or novice to learn how to ride out those waves…..

With no big swells to  body-surf, I was all ears as my wife stood in the sea and talked to her new-found Canadian friend. The man hailed from Toronto, a ‘coincidink‘ since that is the only Canadian city my wife and I have ever spent time visiting. In his late fifties, a business man, the Canadian talked about the guns in America as opposed to those not often carried in his country, but what I wanted most to hear about was his take on his country’s National health care system…

He pays a lot in taxes, but stressed what a relief it was to not worry about end of life expenditures that are bound to come, and those costs related to being a father of two and an aging man.  He remembered various family health issues, ER visits, broken limbs etc.(his son plays Hockey) that were taken care of quickly and at no additional, unexpected cost to his pocket-book! He added, Canadians have a prepaid world-wide health care system! Canadian citizens can seek health care anywhere in the world for treatments not given in his country, or for those procedures attended to better by other providers world-wide, and Canada pays for  it ALL  but for the airfare it cost Canadian citizens to get to where ever they need to go.

He poo-pooed the idea that there were long waiting periods or waiting lines for health care in his country, but he’d heard that was the rumor. I decided that anyone could come up with thousands of examples of people dying in U.S. waiting rooms if they wanted, anecdotal experiences, but that wasn’t the norm in the U.S.  And, I guessed rumors in our country were the same when it came the truth about the Canadian health care system-just anecdotal crapola.

They have secrets......American health providers, and one is that they spread endless rumors, fear, into the hearts of Americans that national health care doesn't work...especially for them, that is. Think about, where are there lines of Canadians dying to get into America????Not.

They have secrets……American health providers I mean. Their industry spreads endless rumors, fear, into the hearts of Americans that National health care doesn’t work…especially for them.

Not that I draw my conclusions from one conversation, but from many readings on the subject and simple observation. Think about it, where are there lines of Canadians dying to get into America for health care, or for any other reason????Not-!

Thing is, it gets worse, for the U.S. workers……

The man’s job, like most professional business jobs in Canada, has a paid for non contributory pension. As listed, his employer pays one-half each month of his pension cost, and then his employer also pays the other half of his liability which he can claim as a tax deduction! (In effect, he pays nothing, but gets to claim 1/2 of his pension contribution cost on his taxes as a deduction as if he had paid it! )This is routine in Canada-a working man’s benefit.

The small ocean waves rolled by as I thought this over. The man has paid for life health care for his entire family, no worries there, and a routine, run-of-the-mill pension in Canada that ensures his well-being in retirement. I started to think about the Canadians’ I’d met while in Toronto and how relaxed they all seemed-happy. No wonder.

To be fair, housing in Canada is something like California’s housing market on steroids, but those snow hounds can afford the prices, and sit back as their pensions add up, and the people are covered for every medical emergency. This is a far cry from what it’s like to be a working American. Sad, for us.

So about those waves that eased on by-I thought I’d glide with one for about ten feet to get the nothing of a thrill.

No one was worried about the big waves coming, but bobbed about in the easy up and down drift of the day's ocean current.

No one was worried about the big waves coming as we all bobbed up and down in the easy drift.

I launched off my feet to hit the top of a two footer when something completely unexpected happened!  I hit some sort of vortex, not a rip tide mind you, but a weirdness that sunk my relaxed body straight down through the water and smashed me face-first along the ocean’s bottom. The non-wave then pushed me along the sand, scraping my nose and, actually, I’d thought I’d possibly broken it. I stood up in calm waist-deep water where children played nearby and couldn’t fathom what had just happened. It was all too shocking, and that small wave made me totally get the power of the ocean-it all starts with small waves.

The thing is, society usually starts to bring about powerful change with small conversations that build between people as waves do in the ocean, as one small wave builds to the next. Eventually, those conversations can become a roar that is heard nation wide, one that can’t be ignored by the leaders anymore. The Vietnam protests are a perfect example of a powerful wave of change. That protest didn’t start with hundreds of thousands of people in Washington, D.C. It started with small, connected conversations. Maybe, like this one.

Start or keep talking about the wave of changes you think America needs to go through in the coming years. Voices have ways of echoing, expanding, and if we continue talking, eventually our leaders will have to listen.
