Some say you’ve done a lot of good during your terms as President, others not so much. But, you are letting the world down now. Drilling in the Arctic has to be the worst possible scenario in terms of environmental conservation, and pointless to boot.* Of course, As President, you know the ins and outs of drilling in the Arctic, that the arctic gas and oil fields are the largest left on earth, but they also reside where cleanup is impossible, human response time to disasters slow, and economically and culturally important species will be put at risk by drilling.

It’s simply not true that America needs to process the Arctic waters for oil production. It’s simply not true that drilling in the arctic ocean will help secure American’s future, or make a difference in our over all supply and demand of oil. The entire world is turning toward solar power development, and wind and water power-alternative energy. Why enforce a bad decision now and lead America away from the future?

The gain is little and the risk of environmental damage high.

Even America’s own watch dog agency ,The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, stated that there was an 75% chance that the world will suffer an environmental disaster brought on by off shore Arctic drilling. And, there’s more- “The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management released the Final Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement for Lease Sale 193 in the Chukchi Sea in Northwest Alaska. The federal government unlawfully sold the oil and gas lease to oil companies, including Shell, in 2008 when it underestimated the risks of a large oil spill. The revised analysis found a 75 percent chance that one or more large oil spills could occur and that many species of marine wildlife would face substantial injury and mortality in the face of an oil spill. Despite these risks, the federal government is prepared to offer 29.4 million acres, the entire Chukchi Sea Program Area, for oil and gas development. – See more at: http://www.foe.org/news/news-releases/2015-02-chukchi-lease-analysis-predicts-large-arctic-oil-spills#sthash.p2xhmDzG.dpuf. Why then, Mr. President, are you willing to risk so much for so little?

Why would you risk so much.....

Why would you risk so much…..

Mr. President, if you closed your eyes today and envisioned the 400,000 people who attended your first inauguration, you’d see a huge crowd of cheering people. Thing is, you’d also be hard pressed to find one among that crowd who supports your decision to drill in the Arctic. How can you turn your back on the very people who gave birth to your power?

Money can’t be enough. We all know the situation is tenuous between the terrorists, Isis, and American’s need to remain as independent as possible from the rich oil-producing countries, but making huge environmental mistakes in this day and age is not a show of force, but folly.

Short term, risky goals and solutions will usher in nothing but old and new problems soon enough.

Mr. President, I’m asking, as so many, that you stand back from an earlier decision you made to allow drilling in the Arctic. I’m asking you to hear the hearts and minds of those who voted you into office, that you turn away from fear, from the what if’s and what could be, and see what is. There’s an urgent call from your supporters for you to stop the Shell arctic drilling that is currently in motion. You can do this.

Life as we know it and our environment are so much more important than any speculative policy decision. You have to stand up for us and do what we know is right.

Snollygoster is here to stay. America doesn’t need a right-wing or left-wing party. What we need is one, huge nut-wing party! That would fit us better.

* This is true….America spends12 billion to stop cross-overs, and 598.5 billion on its military budget, excluding costs of any and all wars. Plus—more to read on this-

1)I love the smell of the tomato plants as I tie them to the fence to help them grow tall. Fresh citrus has a strong smell. I picked several Valencia today and left them by the front door as I worked in the garden picking lettuce, green beans and herbs and peppers. I’d forgotten about them when I went to go inside. The smell was like a fragrant flower-my nose reminded me of their presence.  Cutting fresh oranges fills the room with the scent of orange.

2)The most important idea I can share with anyone, especially with those under forty, or not, is this: If you are thirty-threeish to 36(or younger) and you put $300.00 into a mutual fund per month FOR ONLY SEVEN  YEARS AND THEN STOPPED ENTIRELY, BUT NEVER TOUCHED THE MONEY,  you will have one million dollars in that fund when you turn 65. Just seven years of pain, or a second job. This assumes an 8% gain over the course of 35 years(stocks forever average). This is not based on an outlandish assumption rate-trust me. Sure, things could happen. The US may fall into the ocean, or the world may blow up. But if not, then the world and America will grow, so will the world economy, and even considering an inflation rate, you’d be set for life and maybe your children’s lives will be set as well. It comes down to making a pretend car payment for just seven years while you are still somewhat young. Start later on in life, say in your forties or older, then the effect is not as dramatic, but it still works to a degree.

If you only can put in 150.00 per month, do it. At sixty-five you will be so happy.

3)People are beginning, or continuing, to post stupid political stuff about Hillary. Screw the facts-the blasting goes on regardless. But what I learned(read) this week was about Katherine Harris…she absolutely forged the election return numbers in 2004, and no one to this day has called her out on that crime. (?) And there is this link for those who enjoy reading history about US elections that is laden with facts and truth.*

4)For the first time in nearly two years upon examination my eye occlusion has held its shape. Of course, I’ve developed a side effect from the treatment but, still, I may be coming out of the woods on this.

5)I loved watching the film, I Am, and realize that I’m the type of person who never stops loving someone-the years don’t matter; lack of contact, unseen ever again, beyond distance, my heart never does let go. It’s interesting that in the Japanese culture it is believed that people come and go throughout your life as they should, and there is no need to hang on to memories and wish life were different. I agree with that intellectually, but, emotionally I never let go. It’s a new week, with more to learn.

It’s not rocket science. The mother we all share is Mother Earth. It’s super that we have, Earth Day, but we all should remember the lump of clay beneath every travel is our Mother as well.

Mom is always a-round.

Mom is always a-round.

There is no life as we know it without our Earth.

Such beautiful life comes forth form our Mother Earth.

Such beautiful life comes forth from our Mother Earth.

Disney was right-most plants and animals of this earth are our friends if we only would let that be-

Life is happening all around us every second of every single day.

Life is happening all around us every second of every single day.

Earth. An immense montage of unimaginable beauty; a labyrinth of forests, streams, rivers, ravines, canyons, mountains, prairies, desserts and yes, cities.

I was amazed by discussions I witnessed during the 1970’s, my college years, that referred to things like-Man verses Nature…as though the two were not one and the same?!?!? Actually, as far back as 1864 people were writing about the lack of separation, or difference, between Man and Nature(Man and nature; or, Physical geography as modified by human action is a book written by George Perkins Marsh in 1864.)

Somehow, Mankind(Us) lost our way. Our logic failed us; our need for growth and power to further that growth over came or abilities to understand the Earth’s place in our lives.

Power companies don't get it. People have to mass together and demand renewable energies only as a goal in the foreseeable future.

(A fracking pit.)Power companies don’t get it. People have to mass together and demand renewable energy use only as a goal in the foreseeable future, or we don’t have one. One well placed bullet can kill an elephant. Our environment is like that elephant.

We have our Mother to hold.

We enjoy and need

We enjoy and need “Mom” night and day.

Our sun and its power is a gift. We should accept that gift, we should embrace that glory and light our future for all those who will follow to see.

Some famous artists, like, balh balh, use their work to remind people to celebrate Mother Earth's beauty.

Some famous artists, like Chihuly, and so many others use their work to remind people to celebrate Mother Earth’s beauty.*

If you get the chance, go see The Grand Canyon in person. The sight is a good reminder of how long the Earth has truly been in existence.

It would take one heck of a cosmic drip to do this in just 6000 years.....just saying.

It would take one heck of a cosmic drip to do this in just 6000 years…..just saying.

The Earth’s beauty shines as a light in the center of our eyes. That light mirrors the life around us, and in us. The Earth listens and supplies our needs, but we have to listen as well. We can do this. We can win the environmental wars for Mom. Then, our tables will be set, and our plates full-

Love to all Moms everywhere, and to the one beneath our feet.

If there's anyone we must keep in our corner-it's her.

If there’s anyone we must keep in our corner-it’s her.

There was an odd thing about this latest cruise-I couldn’t lose weight no matter how much I ate!*

Honestly, I stayed dedicated to the diet, the attempt of a lifetime, certain to drain some of those unwanted pounds right into the ocean, but it was a no go.

I tried every thing.

Maybe, this guy did, too.

Maybe, not everything…

No amount of fruit-all kinds- or drinks, smashes, frozen, a zillion shots in one cup!, beer(s) on tap, iced funny named booze, rum-filled pineapples that mysteriously looked like coconuts to me by day four, hot coffee, cold soda and one million gallons of water-forget it, nothing washed away the pounds!

I hammered the pork loin, roast beef, filet mignon(s), Chateaubriand-I can’t Belize how much they expected me to eat. But, I only ate two lobsters-this the weakest link of my feel and look young again planned execution for the cruise.

I had a solid, well thought out plan in place.

I had a solid, well thought out plan in place.

Lobsters swam through my dreams by night; veggies up the kazoo filled my plate by day. Omelets included kitchen sinks, and why not bacon, sausage, and chicken fingers for breakfast(?). I was tempted to pass up the cookies but never the flanges, meringues, I never tasted mango cream pie like that-not to mention the mango soup-but was there a type of cake I missed?-I think not. Still, I knew several helpings of cherry, blueberry or whatever berry crumb pie wouldn’t tilt my scale an inch. NO. I needed something more, but what?

Late night BUFFETS had to be the key to losing weight.

Of course, there was still a chance those mid-afternoon fix-a-stomach-slump piled a mile high burgers and fat fries would do the trick. Lord knows having four appetizers before dinner had failed miserably. Added to my chagrin, fellow sail-mate, Mike, could very well have been out eating me! I could see his face getting thinner by the day!

In the end, there was still more to eat.

I mean, one day is only one day. It was time to eat on. That’s when those late night pizza’s, sandwiches, surprise open buffet-Look more deserts!- came in handy to the plate before me. Fortunately for my eat away fat plan, the plates offered resembled foot ball fields that had been molded upward at the edges and stacked so they might be passed off as lunch/dinner dishes. They barely cleared the doorways. It was so simple to choose what to take from the selections offered-everything would fit nicely on those plates.

This cruiser was starting to get the idea.....

This cruiser was starting to get the idea…..

Foodish cruisin’ connoisseurs needed a fork and a fork lift to help haul food plates around as they selected seating. Mostly, the passengers were your average folk.

Some looked familiar.

Some looked familiar.

Others had a vague look in their eye, like ones seen on mathematicians or scientists.

Others had a vague look in their eye, like ones seen on the faces of mathematicians or scientists.

It was around Thursday, the fifth day of this cruising for losing voyage,  when my eat-the-galley-empty platform began to kick in. The ocean had been rockin’ for days, now my stomach had learned the tune. Nah, I wasn’t sea-sick, not at all-loved the rocking.(perk for alcoholics–no one could tell a drunk from someone sober when most people were banging against stairwells and corridor walls as they motivated to the next buffet line-honest.) Anyway, it was on Thursday afternoon when I looked upon the beautiful Caribbean turquoise waters and knew I’d succeeded.  I couldn’t eat another thing! I was done, finished, call it a wrap, over, full, completely out of the eating running game….until dinner. Those two hours were amazing, but for the hamburger…

Random idea-thought I’d float this on by.

images (23)The Spa really needs to add mouth stretching to its list of optional treatments.

About those burgers. The miracle was there. You get one, simple cheese burger and then float by a buffet add-on deal. Pickles, onion, olives, peppers, chili peppers, mushrooms, need more lettuce? and what about that special sauce anyway? Thing is, by the time I reached the other end of the maybe add this bar I didn’t have a hamburger anymore. It was more like a miniature Mount Everest had settled on my plate, and then it soon landed in my stomach.

I think this guy forgot the onions.....

I think this guy forgot the onions…..

I remember thinking that my stomach had come to resemble a ski-slope. That’s why I went down the three water work slides-somehow it all made sense.

When I add up the cost of all the food I diligently ate in an effort to lose weight, I figure the cruise ship lost about five thousand dollars on me. NO need to worry-I noticed most nights people were only eating one or two entrees at dinner. Certainly, the normal run-of-the-mill guest didn’t touch the five entrees I’d once ordered on a cruise some time back.( I am forever family famous for that as being one who’d mastered a gluttonous expertise.)

The SunShine six! Funny how the police give you a name and it somehow sticks!

The SunShine six! Funny how the police give you a name and it somehow sticks!

It is with a remorseful sense of failure to comply to the strictest of standards when it comes to dietary eating that I must confess I am not lacking a single pound that I’d carried on board that ship at the start of the cruise. NO, the chocolate mousse, cheese Danish, Russian knock-offs and Istanbul wannabe cream puffs, the meringues, melting cups, cheese cakes, so many flange cakes of every flavor, those dang mango mille feuilles and panna cottas all went for naught.

I stared out our cabin window wondering where all that food i"d eaten had gone?!?! Then, I looked down. (Hint:Never look down on a cruise.)

I stared out our cabin window wondering where all that food I’d eaten had gone?!?! Then, I looked down. (Hint: Never look down on a cruise.)

Thing is, nothing worked about my plan, and I blame this all on those two nights I passed up the cream brulee. What was I thinking! I guess there’s always next time. “Try harder!” That’s what dad used to say.

Boom! I’ve been wanting to do this river and water fall on a bulletin board for a long time. I’ve tossed the possible design around for over a year. At last, the river flows, and the water falls!

The falling water is made of strips of highly reflective blue foil paper, silver tinsel and and see through, multicolored floresent wrapping paper. I put blocks of white foam board at the bottom to created the white splash of falling water.

But the board is more about zipping through adventure as you roam the collection of any library.

It's fun to zip around a library.....

I’d be happier if the library’s web page address was more visible. At the time, black seemed right-what a clunker of an idea. It’s still possible I might redo that in a brighter color….@www. aclib.us…. For sure the squirrel mascot I use in every board is missing…he’ll be floating on a raft-type boat in the water below the river by sometime next week….

This board was challenging to string up! I’m happy with many aspects of the scene. The crumpled look of the grey rock comes across as I hoped it might and gives some credence to the idea of a water fall(I think). Some one asked me how long the board took to put up. The answer is almost five years-that because some parts of it, the wood steps and the black trees, have been used in boards over and over throughout that length of time. In fact, the reflective green grass blades have been used in countless displays and in puppet show sets for over eight years-so yeah-eight years… Nothing comes easy, but many things can be used in many different ways. For me, the fun in the planning, doing the design work, working to put it all together as a scene, and then hearing what people think about the board when it’s all finished are equally as refreshing. Call me loving it.

Here’s to adventure in your local library. Zip on by and have fun! BTW here’s a link from Cnn that pictures some beautiful libraries—and lists some amazing facts about their collections.

The ol’ swimming hole is an American tradition, if not a world-wide keepsake memory. Thing is, there’s a new kind of swimming pit in town….

Nearby neighborhood fracking pit. Swim anyone?

Nearby neighborhood fracking pit. Swim anyone?

Me neither. There’s something about these frackin’ radioactive, carcinogenic waters that have turned me off to diving into the hole, but not the story. I’d claim to be muckraking if I could, but that isn’t the case. The story of fracking isn’t a hidden unknown, waiting to be exposed in a column written by me. The truth is out there for all to read. Thing is, some proponents of fracking-i.e. everyone and only everyone who stand to make money off the deal- say the complaints about fracking wear no clothes. I guess, big oil doesn’t believe the naked truth.

But if there’s one thing I’ve learned by living this long it’s this: nothing talks louder than money in a room.

There was an opinion posted on CNN last year that I’ve thought about ever since I first read the article. It was in favor of fracking.

The opinion is here if you’d like to read the entire thing:   http://www.cnn.com/2014/12/19/opinion/carl-fracking-new-york/index.html

And, since this article seems to be an iconic example of the stalwart thinking done by advocates of fracking, I thought it best to go thru some of the less than perfect building blocks of boondoggle disastrous thinking that are so eloquently presented in this work of fiction.

There are a few glaring holes in the arguments presented in this opinion piece that’s linked above. Unfortunately, those holes are almost as large as ones often found in the pipes depicted in the diagram below.

We should get people to put their fingers in these leaking pipes.

We should get people to put their fingers in these leaking pipes.

I must add—-the good news, as many pro fracking articles point out, is that government oversight can correct the constant leaking pipe syndrome associated with fracking that will end up poisoning our populace if it isn’t stopped. Oddly, I’d say most of those in favor of fracking also believe that government can’t do anything right……..but I digress. Back to the article of questionable value.

Point one(in the article): Fracking causes few problems, and this process is the major reason gas prices having fallen in the US.

Real Answer:  America is now the fourth largest producer of oil and gas due, at least in part, to Fracking in the US. However, Fracking is NOT the reason gas prices have fallen recently. Read this-

“A central factor in the sharp price drops, analysts say, is the continuing unwillingness of OPEC, a cartel of oil producers, to intervene to stabilize markets that are widely viewed as oversupplied. Prices of OPEC’s crude benchmark have fallen about 40 percent since the organization declined to cut production at a late Novembermeeting in Vienna.”

http://www.nytimes.com/2015/01/13/business/energy-environment/oil-prices.html?_r=0

Why is OPEC willing to keep oil prices low? That’s in another blog I wrote( believe it or not, the low bench mark price on oil has to do with terrorism.(https://franque23.wordpress.com/2015/02/05/fact-check-on-name-calling-on-face-book/)

Point Two( of the article in question): The air is cleaner now because we are fracking-

Answer: Ha-how-die and a ho ho ho….”Yet one study found that only one quarter of the four percent drop in U.S. CO2 emissions between 2011 and 2012 is attributable to shale gas. Efforts to increase energy efficiency had a more substantial impact, reported InsideClimate News.”

Yes, American’s air is cleaner than is has been in the past, but this is mostly due to lower emission standards set in place for power companies, and due to the expanded use of alternative car power. But don’t take my word for this:

“When it comes to air quality, the Environment America report estimates that drilling and fracking natural gas wells in the U.S. created 450,000 tons of air pollution in 2012……..”

http://insideclimatenews.org/news/20130730/efficiency-drove-us-emissions-decline-not-natural-gas-study-says

Who will be next! Real estate speculators wanna know!

Who will be next! Real estate speculators wanna know!

Point Three: Again, frracking is worth the risk.

Answer: No, it isn’t.  Just saying, when the Earth starts swayin’, it ain’t dancing.

“The scientists, from the University of Miami, identified 77 earthquakes of varying size in the Poland Township of Ohio, all occurring between March 4 and March 12 and all located near a group of oil and gas wells. The quakes ranged between magnitudes of 1.0 and 3.0”

“According to study co-author Robert Skoumal, that magnitude 3.0 quake was “one the largest earthquakes ever induced by hydraulic fracturing in the United States.””

http://billmoyers.com/2015/01/09/first-time-scientists-prove-fracking-caused-earthquake-strong-enough-felt-humans/

And you know what? There’s nothing like a good quake to make a person feel right at home.

Just ask the person in that car who was out for a spin........

Just ask the person in that car who was out for a spin……..

Point Four:  Fracking is not a threat to ground water.

Answer:  According to studies fracking in the US is something akin to America taking a huge Cosmic bucket of radioactive, highly toxic chemicals and dumping it on its head.

U.S. fracking operations produced an estimated 280 billion gallons of wastewater in 2012, the report notes. This is enough to flood all of Washington, D.C. in a “22-foot deep toxic lagoon,” according to the group.”

This is really someone's tape water.......

This is really someone’s tape water…….but very few explode.

“In Colorado alone, the amount of water used for fracking “was enough to meet the water needs of nearly 200,000 Denver households for a year,” according to the report.”

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/10/11/fracking-by-the-numbers-report_n_4037295.html

Despite the opinions of those who support fracking, and their belief that fracking has an upside that’s worth the environmental risk the process imposes upon the planet, entire countries and some US states disagree and they’ve ban the process from their land. Many people, states and countries speak out against fracking-join the chorus. We can bring our world back into harmony with Nature.

“The bottom line is this: The numbers on fracking add up to an environmental nightmare,” Environment America’s John Rumpler said in a press release. “If this dirty drilling continues unchecked, these numbers will only get worse…..”

This is a world-wide list of countries and states in America that have bans on fracking. Please get a cup of coco, curl up with a blankie-it’s a long read.

http://keeptapwatersafe.org/global-bans-on-fracking/

Fracking begins with an F, that’s appropriate, but it really should be a four letter word. It’s important to speak out continually against this mind-boggling threat to our lives, and to the lives of all those who follow us. Please tell your representatives to stop fracking now.

Franque23……..hmmmm..maybe I should change my name?

I raked off the winter cover-not too many weeds to pull-at first....Shadow knows a job is at hand.

I raked off the winter cover-not too many weeds to pull-at first….Shadow knows a job is at hand.

I’ll use the wood stalks seen here above Shadow as climbers for pole beans and tomatoes–they’re from our indigenous jasmine that grows 14 feet high a year during summer, and then dies off in the winter.

These are the only two tools I'll use to plant this garden-my dad's 65 plus year old , American made rake and shovel.

These are the only two tools I’ll use to plant this garden-my dad’s 65 plus year old , American made rake and shovel.(Broccoli in background is from fall planting, and still yielding.

Being thirty-five is sooo different from being 65. I was always in such a hurry back then-“No time to play kids, I’ve got to garden!” Now, Shadow makes a game out of shoveling, raking and, yes, it screws me up, but this is so joyful!

He's gonna get that rake if it's the last thing.....

He’s gonna get that rake if it’s the last thing…..

Whew! First time through the garden--all the top weeds have been pulled

Whew! First time through the garden–all the top weeds have been pulled

I timed the process-It has taken about 1 and 1/2 hours to get to this point…..

The soil's been turned once by shovel, and now the bags of top soil /composed are laid out

The soil’s been turned once by shovel, and now the bags of top soil /compost are laid out

Turning the garden over shovel-by-shovel is laborious… It took about two more hours to get this part done. (3 1/2 hours total to this point)There’s a rhythm to that task though, and it gives me time to think about the beauty of our world as I go. Red Tailed Hawks circle above; Sand Hill cranes fly by: I listen to their calls and the soft sound of my shovel turning the earth over.

You might wonder-why not a tiller? It would do the trick, but also it would be loud, and heavy-not me at all, and I think I’d lose my spiritual connection to the earth that the old-timey method of hand shoveling brings to mind.

AND-there’s this. A tiller would chop up the weeds I’ve missed during the first weeding-those underneath the ground as well. This first shoveling helps me unearth the problematic roots (Florida Betony)….How many roots?  Here’s the collection and their weight after this first shoveling.

25.6 pounds of Florida Betony root pulled i none shoveling---they'd be about 3 times that much if allowed to grow through spring.

25.6 pounds of Florida Betony root pulled in one shoveling—they’d be about 3 times that much if allowed to grow through spring.

Next, I shovel the rows, quickly flipping earth into raised lines—this took another 30 minutes.(4 hours total now)

The rows are ready

The rows are ready- I once asked my squash and zucchini seeds and they said they like rows as well as they like mounds.

I hitch my shovel under my arm and pretend I'm a plow horse as I drag it over the rows to flatten their tops.

It took ten minutes to flatten the tops of all the rows

It took ten minutes to flatten the tops of all the rows-Whoa boy!

All my victory garden needs now is seed holes, seeds, sun and water….

I use the top of my shovel to make the seed holes.

I use the top of my shovel to make the seed holes.

The holes take about ten minutes to make--but dropping seeds in takes another 30 minutes, at least.

The holes take about ten minutes to make–but dropping seeds in takes another 30 minutes, at least.

There’s more to do,( It’s taken about 5 hours so far) but for now I’ll wait for the plants to sprout, and then use mulch neighbors from all around have conveniently raked and bagged and put along the roadside for my taking!(actually for the garbage pick-up.) The mulch will go between the rows, and I’ll use about 30 bags I manage to find curbside over the next two months.-Stop, load those bags into my car whenever I see them, and drive away….

Thank You for raking....

Thank You for raking….

There’s more garden fun coming—-stay tuned and enjoy your time outside, growing food.

In all, by the time I first got the tools out, did the deed, and then cleaned up and showered off, it was about 7 hours later when I sat down and smiled….

The Lake Bonaparte amp 2/1/2015

The Lake Bonaparte Camp 2/1/2015

Follow the road at the bottom of the first shot below that veers right until you pass one point, and then a second. Now you’ve reached our small nook of a bay, and past our bay around a third point is a large bay that forms the right side of the lake(right side of picture)-that’s called bull rush bay. .. go back to our small bay and move left and up a bit across the water and you’ll see an Island that looks like an inverted ‘T’…that’s Birch Island, the one my ex-brother-in-law owned for many many years until this year. Moving past that Island you’ll see way to the left and at the top of the picture, the outlet of the lake-that’s called Mud lake, and that’s where I most often fish….the fifth shot in this series is one Dale took in Mud lake.

In all, there’s 22 miles of shore line…and the lake is ninety feet deep(deeper) in places….When I was young, I was told that divers claimed the lake was 300 feet deep–but , I think invasive weeds have lessened the readings–Mud lake stays shallow–4 to 15 fifteen feet deep.

A yoga dock class,,, and my small fishing boat is behind us. We built the dock, our family/relatives in 2004, and now my sister has bought a party boat, so we will be redoing the dock in the next two years to allow for more docking space.

Yoga at the lake-fun times.

Our set of sixty steps down to the lake from our camp has a 1/2 way dock-seats, resting, great view….this shot of the sunset and Birch island out in the lake was taken from this place of tranquility…

These are the dangerous people…..some are bark eaters*…but I say they’re misunderstood. They mean no harm, and they don’t bite-not often.

But don't worry-you don't usually run into them all at once. And a lot of them sleep in.

Right now, I’m fishing through old shots you’ve seen if you read my blog(as if-right!)

Not in the lake......not up there.

Not in the lake……not up there. These big boys swim around with us down here in Florida.

It's hard to have fun up there.

I've known some people up there for over 60 years!

Others are gone, though they live through my memories, especially when I’m around the lake.

Time is a funny thing. For me, when I'm up at the lake, the days feel eternal, and way too short!

For all I know, these two could be Vampires....(BTW--This subject, Vampires, draws over 2500 hits on the catalog of the library where I work!)

No, the country didn’t land in our lap, our daughter and family flew in from Johannesburg, South Africa to help pick and eat our oranges.  My daughter has been picking oranges all her life, starting with my dad’s trees in Satellite Beach, Florida. She’s an absolute pickin’ pro, and when she heard about our crop this year, she had to come( She may have had one or two more reasons for making he two-day flight.) About that orange crop in our yard this year! Boom! Smash, whoa-what a doozy, who could count all of them? Well, me-almost down to the last orange-those are still left to pick.

We've picked over 1200 oranges form our property since Nov. 1st*

We’ve picked over 1200 oranges from our property since Nov. 1st* This tree has about 200 more on it, the Valencia will ripen now through February …

We have so many oranges, I’ve started throwing them for Shadow to chase instead of using tennis balls—it’s all good!

Shadow knows I might throw an orange or two when I pick a bunch,,,he waits bye

Then, I fling an orange and wait for its return.

At first, I didn't think Shadow would pick up an orange. Ha! This is Shadow-he who eats anything....

Speaking of eating, like I said, Kelly and her family came to eat.

The plane flight was worth it

The plane flight was worth it—-her daughter didn’t fall far from the tree! She’s not letting go of that orange.

But, it wasn’t all about eating oranges. Reading was a foot!

Fun Times in Bookville...

Fun Times in Bookville…

Of the 1200 hundred we’ve picked so far, only about 55 have gone to waste, thanks to our daughter’s families appetites, our neighbors, church groups and workmates got bunches, too. Heck, even our doctors got oranges.

Our trees inside and out were covered with oranges.

So it was an orange you glad to see me kinda of Holiday this year. Next season-who knows?!?! It’s mostly all in the weather.

It was so great to have Kelly and her family visit form Africa this year, and see the cousins and sisters get together.

It’s such a joy to see family, and to grow food, too.  See one another whenever you can, and plant those trees and seeds as well.
