the lake from above-

The scene was so beautiful– one sunset gave a deep teal blue water-color, all lined in black by  High Rock, trees, hills, with a blazing red stripe that span across the whole western skyline, and above, as if an icing on a red velvet cake, whisk a band of turquoise blue. Soon, that enchanted blue gave way to a deepening, darker sky that grew to reveal the first stars of the night.

This isn't the exact shot....no where near red enough---but somehow I've lost 36 pictures taken this fall at the lake during a transfer from my camera to computer--drat!

The loons never disappoint, their call echoing from the Twin Sister shoreline where so few cabin lights glimmered.

This September had been a warm one with lake temperatures in the high seventies, the air full of breeze that fluttered leaves partly turned but for the Swamp Maple already ablaze with yellow, red and gold.

This bulletin board came form my lake, 'Happy Place'.

There was no way to suspect a two-day rain would soon drop the water to seventy-though three days after that storm, on our day to depart, warmer weather was coming to continue a sun that could heat any dock by afternoon.

I ran across the dock joined by two grandsons, seven and six, and cannon balled  splashing waves to either side. Sometimes, I even wore a suit.

I’d always thought, as do my family, relatives and friends, that being up at the Lake makes me feel good, food tastes better, I sleep soundly, and a plop in the lake before breakfast ends any fuzzes from the late night before. This dip is sound advice-the refreshing dunk makes any weather better. But, as it turns out, there’s more to the Lake than the scene, the water, the loon, the rocks, trees, hills and grassland-for us and for so many, it is a place of family, and seemingly a million options when it comes to enjoying the Lake with relatives.

My daughter, Kelly Shiohira, is currently working in Africa in the field of International Education and holds a Masters from U. of Penn. She has called for the distinction between pro choice and pro abortion.

“Do not confuse “Pro-Choice” and “pro-abortion”: They are not the same. People have various reasons for being pro-choice. Many of us are feminists: We believe women and their bodies should not be controlled by the patriarchy that still dominates government. Many of us believe in the inherent goodness of people: If you give people a choice – a real choice, where they have the means to ensure their baby is supported – they will make the right one. The corollary is that many of us believe women who do get abortions are in desperate situations and need support rather than condemnation. And many of us are rationalists: We can separate emotion and logic and agree that the systems are not in place to support the population we have, let alone an influx of abandoned children. We see the dangers inherent in banning abortion: Abandoned babies born to the poor in secret and left in dumpsters; illegal procedures both painful and life-threatening; and, if they survive infancy, maladjusted children growing into adults prone to the cycle. We want real solutions for women, not legislation. We want fundraising for the women and children nutrition programme, free access to medical care, early and parenting education programmes. We want a society where no woman feels she has to make that choice, where every child and adult is adequately supported and developed. Then we can talk about legislation.”

Of course, I’m proud of my daughter who reaps some clarity from within the barrage of emotional hog-wash that’s being tossed on the issue of Women’s Rights with regard to abortion. This is not an easy task.

It all started when my workmates returned from a LGBT* (Lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender)*  meeting and reported that there’d been a huge discussion about whether or not blacks could or should refer to themselves as Niggers. The point was taken, and seemingly accepted, that in today’s sensibilities blacks are empowered when they use this word.  The thinking went like this: Blacks gain ownership of the term, nigger, when they use it themselves, and speaking the word daily along with the word’s prolific usage in songs deflates the discriminatory nature of the word.

0ff239a28be868eb81c8918313d3c643

We’re all one happy name-calling family.

So, today the worst word lardass peckerwood, hick hillbillies and other honky’s could think to call a burrhead, boogie coon jigaboo(–nigger–)is used so often by blacks that it’s almost like saying, hello. It’s almost proper English-that’s the prevalent opinion in some circles. Nice. Thing is, and I merely speculate, this idea could be the result of some over thinking by four eyed book worms, and most of them curry muncher Paki’s no doubt.

Idea man wants to know…..

Why didn't the term, Mosshead, take hold?

Why didn’t the term, Mosshead, take hold?

Okay, so blacks can sing about niggers all they want since it makes them feel good. Thing is, I was wondering why spics, super wop guineas and tocohead wet backs hadn’t felt and thought the same about using the slang terms for their individual ethnicity? Limey! With how over achieving most nip faced Japs are, you’d think this bunch of slant eyes would have marketed the idea ions ago!

Here’s my bottom line: I think this whole idea that Blacks, African Americans or even  buffie buck bluegums should use this word has a super-sized fat wong choong chink in its armor. In fact, this whole movement, the sure, go ahead and call yourself derogatory names thing, may be the result of a stratagem of bovine, whalelike, roly-poly, butterball, pudgy proportion! I mean, is there a quicker way to erode a person’s sense of self worth than having them refer to their nig-nog golliwog selves in the worst of possible derogatory terms on a daily basis? Maybe only supplying people with super sized kraut-made Jim Crow whips so they might slash themselves would be more expedient, not sure.

In the basement of my thinking, as I meandered through the peat mire along with other Micks, Charlie’s and Lebo Brownies, and then pushed aside my skank garden hoes, I came to a realization. Who will explain to that beautifully faced, bright-eyed four year old black girl or boy(and every other child) that being called disgusting names is really okay? There’s a nineteen eighty-fourish laugher for ya.

What word do we use....

What word do we use….

Have a great day, even you Russkie, commie dauchebags. Sure, a rose by any name would smell as sweet but somehow this abhorrent word usage slop brain-ticks are dishing society nowadays leaves a bitter taste in my mouth. The idea that this trashy n-word is good for anyone to use belongs in the garbage.

That’s it for now from this white boy who can’t juke enough to cut a rug. Doo-whop, splat.

No, the country didn’t land in our lap, our daughter and family flew in from Johannesburg, South Africa to help pick and eat our oranges.  My daughter has been picking oranges all her life, starting with my dad’s trees in Satellite Beach, Florida. She’s an absolute pickin’ pro, and when she heard about our crop this year, she had to come( She may have had one or two more reasons for making he two-day flight.) About that orange crop in our yard this year! Boom! Smash, whoa-what a doozy, who could count all of them? Well, me-almost down to the last orange-those are still left to pick.

We've picked over 1200 oranges form our property since Nov. 1st*

We’ve picked over 1200 oranges from our property since Nov. 1st* This tree has about 200 more on it, the Valencia will ripen now through February …

We have so many oranges, I’ve started throwing them for Shadow to chase instead of using tennis balls—it’s all good!

Shadow knows I might throw an orange or two when I pick a bunch,,,he waits bye

Then, I fling an orange and wait for its return.

At first, I didn't think Shadow would pick up an orange. Ha! This is Shadow-he who eats anything....

Speaking of eating, like I said, Kelly and her family came to eat.

The plane flight was worth it

The plane flight was worth it—-her daughter didn’t fall far from the tree! She’s not letting go of that orange.

But, it wasn’t all about eating oranges. Reading was a foot!

Of the 1200 hundred we’ve picked so far, only about 55 have gone to waste, thanks to our daughter’s families appetites, our neighbors, church groups and workmates got bunches, too. Heck, even our doctors got oranges.

Our trees inside and out were covered with oranges.

So it was an orange you glad to see me kinda of Holiday this year. Next season-who knows?!?! It’s mostly all in the weather.

It was so great to have Kelly and her family visit form Africa this year, and see the cousins and sisters get together.

It’s such a joy to see family, and to grow food, too.  See one another whenever you can, and plant those trees and seeds as well.

Some call it bragging; I call it bragging rights! It doesn’t get any better than this.

Our second daughter, mother of four she home schools, certified pulmonary technologist, great canvas artist, song writer, performer, a rubber faced comedian, dear heart and now a published author on Kindle….did I mention her book on Kindle?! Saving Jane, by Laura Dale Bell? Boom! Call me happy!

My favorite shot of Laura…..

Her new author look—-

She has always been able to "read" people, and her new book capitalizes upon this expertise.

She has always been able to “read” people, and her new book capitalizes upon this expertise.

Laura has followed the adage- write what you know.I keep thinking this book mirrors the soul  of her characters, rakes them bare on the pages while subconsciously getting the reader to self-examine their own true heart-felt emotions. Enjoy!

And about that first daughter……

An international traveler, working five years in Japan as a school teacher and now, with a masters from the prestigious University of Pennsylvania, working in Johannesburg , South Africa in her field. She rocks any linguistic test, but also majors in life accomplishments. Her first daughter is our fifth grandchild, but all of them our number one babies…

Our first number five granddaughter!

Will was her first great horse.

Will was one of our first daughter’s  great horses.

She's thought big from the get-go.

She’s thought big from the get-go.

There’s so much to say about these two great daughters! Both follow the strong, loving lead my wife has shown as their mother. No one’s gonna  mess with either, and brought up in a world that favors men, I’m so proud my daughters buck the trend ,and join in the ever-growing wave of highly successful, achieving women in our time.

Wow…. what a neat day. Laura’s first book; Kelly Skypes us from Africa. Like I wrote-it can’t get any better.

Love all around!
